Meet the Pike Block

Following from the interview with our new CO, we thought we would quiz some of the other members. Here are some of our finest and stoutest about what the like (and what they don’t) about this fantastic hobby.

What is your name?
Aron Jordan

What do you do in the KG?
I have the honour and privilege of being a Sergeant of Pike although I do like to take on a long stick and do my duty as a humble Pikeman

Can you remember your very first muster?
I did a temporary membership many years ago at Nantwich but my first muster as a member was Big Nantwich in 2007. What a way to start

What is your worst memory of a muster?
Most people will say weather or mud but as long as you are prepared those things are minor. You can always find some issue but for the most part the KG is awesome

What was your favourite muster ever?
As my first muster Big Nantwich set the bar very high but I’d have to say that Skenfrith holds a very special place in my heart. Tiny little muster and very intimate with the public, great memories

What is the best thing about the KG?
The KG is made of of some fantastic people many of whom have become lifelong friends. We very much feel like an extended family and where we turn up there is always laughter, Good cheer and companionship.

What is your best thing about the SK?
Similar to my previous answer really. The SK draws together people from all over the country and from all walks of life. Rarely gave I encountered a group with such diversity.

 Major or mini musters?
Majors are big bold events where the SK get to show off what we as a society can really do. I prefer minis as you get to meet new people and strengthen friendships in a much more intimate setting. I also think the public get more out of a mini as they can get closer to the reenacted and the action.

What is your favourite kind of music or band?
I’m mostly a fan of hard rock and metal but there are many things I listen to. At the moment I sing my daughter to sleep with Metallica and Ennui Morrione’s Ecstasy of Gold

Would you like to have lived in the 17th century?
Absolutely not. As a society we enjoy so many more freedoms and I’m a massive fan of being able to choose my employer and not dying before my 50s of some horrible disease.

What is your name? Mike Weston or Biggles.

What do you do in the KG? I’m currently a Pikeman, but have enjoyed a go at other roles.

What is your worst memory of a muster? Ludlow, a great muster, until I turned up on the Sunday and discovered I was in charge of the KG on the field.

Tent or caravan? Tent now, Caravan originally then, best of all, proper T2 VW campervan.

Beer or cider? Beer, but Cider if it’s hot. Port later on.

Beer tent or awning? Beer tent if’s there’s good entertainment, otherwise a camp fire. A mixture of both is better.

Drill on Sundays or a lie in? Always a lie in, but duty often calls! 13. Major or mini musters? Major, but some of the best musters are minis.

If you could change one thing in reenactment what would it be? Controversially I’d suggest that the ones who care the most about it, and are therefore willing to put the effort in to keep it going, are sometimes a little too keen on authenticity and not keen enough on making it entertaining both for the members and, more importantly, the audience.

What is your favourite kind of music or band? Anything that’s good. You can’t beat a good folk rock band in the beer tent though.

Favourite film? The African Queen

If you met someone who had fought in the civil war what would you ask them? The same I’d ask anyone from any war, why?

What are you reading at the moment? The Blood Crows by Simon Scarrow

What is the best thing about the KG? the family feel and the pikeblock all good guys and girls
